Global is the island's bus company and it covers more routes than most newcomers expect. The yellow buses connect Las Palmas to the south coast, the airport, and most major towns. Within Las Palmas itself, the guaguas municipales (blue city buses) are frequent and cheap.
The TransGC card
Get a TransGC card immediately — it's a rechargeable transport card that cuts fares by 50% or more on Global buses. You can buy one at the main bus stations (San Telmo in Las Palmas, or the Maspalomas interchange) for a couple of euros. Top it up at machines or estancos (tobacco shops). Without the card, a ride to the south costs around €6. With it, about €3.
Key routes
Line 60: The fast highway express from Las Palmas to Maspalomas (about 30 minutes). Line 01: Las Palmas to the airport (25 minutes). Lines 30x: Interior mountain towns via the scenic route. The Global app shows real-time arrivals and is mostly accurate. For weekend hikes, the 18 and 305 routes reach trailheads at Tamadaba, Roque Nublo, and Pico de las Nieves — but check the Sunday schedule carefully, as frequency drops dramatically.
